E-business is a relatively new concept of using the internet to buy and sell products. The Internet has been around for a long time and people have been shopping on it for a decade. E-business in this context is referring to online business models where the Retailer does not keep an inventory of products, nor do they deal with shipping it to the end customer.  

There are multiple ways to start an online business but here we will briefly mention fulfillment methods most commonly used as of 2019.  

 

 

DROPSHIPPING

 

WHAT IS DROPSHIPPING?

Dropshipping is a fulfillment method in which the retailer operates without maintaining any inventory, handling product or even shipping. Essentially, each time a product is ordered, it is handled by a third-party company, which handles the logistics of maintaining an inventory and delivering the product to the end consumer. This means you don’t pay for any inventory unless the product is ordered.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Dropshipping is made easier now by e-commerce websites like Shopify, 3DCart, WooCommerce just to name a few. The process is straight forward: 

  1. Signup on an e-commerce store,  
  1. Find a product on AliExpress – Sign up to get $19
  1. Setup your product page with details from the original product 
  1. Make a Facebook page with your brand logo and products on it. 
  1. Post regularly to drive traffic to your website. 

 

 

AMAZON FBA

 

WHAT IS AMAZON FBA?

We all are familiar with Amazon as a consumer, but fulfillment By Amazon (FBA) is for selling on Amazon. FBA is a much simpler form of dropshipping where the seller does not have to maintain inventory, all the logistics are handled by Amazon, from storing the inventory, picking, packaging, and shipping, Amazon takes care of it.  

 

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Amazon keeps it simple with selling on its platform, with no hassle of driving traffic to your website. To create your own, you would need to: 

  1. Create an account on Amazon as a seller 
  1. Research for a product and a supplier 
  1. Request your delivery to an Amazon directly 
  1. Create a listing for your product with your picture of the product 
  1. Let Amazon take care of the rest 

 

 

PRINT ON DEMAND (POD)

 

WHAT IS PRINT ON DEMAND?

POD is also a fulfillment method where the retailer customizes white label products like t-shirts, caps, hoodies, etc. with their design to sell. Again, even with this method, all the logistics of inventory, packaging, and shipping is handled by the supplier.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

POD has improved over the years where the seller does not have to worry about designing the product but instead, they just need to create a website and drive traffic to it. The platforms give the design power to the consumer to design their product as they please. It is much simpler to start:  

  1. Signup on any of the platforms: Printify, Printful, TeeSpring, and many more 
  1. Set up a website with your branding 
  1. Create a listing of the products you would like to feature 
  1. Initially, you would need to come up with a few designs to gain traction 
  1. Market your website using Facebook, Instagram to create awareness.
